If you have young people with you, you might like to visit and spend a bit of time with the animals.
Hartlepool Headland Story Trail
This is an interesting and well signposted walking trail consisting of 18 information boards (topped by a monkey) which tells the history of the Headland in about 2 hours. You can pick up the trail at any point.
North Sands is a 1.5 mile walk along the promenade and continues to Crimdon Dene and beyond. As well as the beaches a stone’s throw from Fisherman’s Cottage there are other beaches to explore.
On the south side of Hartlepool offers a very different atmosphere – ice cream, candy floss, fish and chips. Though restrictions for dogs apply in the summer there’s still lots of beach to walk on.
And of course, for a day trip you have Whitby and Staithes not too far away.
If you love nature then just 15 minutes’ drive away visit the RSPB flagship with hides, café and viewing gallery. Also nearby a seal hide and viewing platform.
National Museum of the Royal Navy
A recreation of an 18th century seaport in the heart of Hartlepool’s town centre.
A recreation of times gone by with reconstructed streets, shops, fairground and even a mine!
The National Glass Centre, Sunderland
Glass exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops. Less than an hour away and well worth a visit.
National Cycle Network route 14 - open your front door and cycle along the promenade to join the National Cycle Network route 14 and explore Durham’s Heritage Coast.

The only First World War Battlefield in the UK
The Heugh Battery Museum preserves the only Battlefield in the UK and comemorates the bombardment of the Hartlepools in 1916
Lots of eating out options at Hartlepool Marina – a great place to visit either day or night! Navigation Point is a busy hub of bars, cafes and restaurants offering tastes from around the world.
One of many great places to eat on Hartlepool’s historic quay. Italian, Pizza & Mediterranean Restaurant - full of atmosphere. It overlooks Hartlepool's most famous attraction, HMS Trincomalee. Surrounded by free car parks, it is the ideal venue for lazy lunchtimes, fast teatime treats and party nights.
Just around the corner from the cottage - my favourite place. A traditional friendly pub selling real ale. Music nights, including open mic. Dogs very welcome.
